Christened ‘God’ by the Kop, Robbie Fowler is one of the mostrevered players in Liverpool’s history. He is the fourth-highest goalscorer inthe history of the Premier League. Scoring 183 goals in total for Liverpool. Hewon 26 caps for England scoring 7 goals.
A boyhood Everton fan, he switched allegiances aged 11 afterbeing persuaded by scout Jim Aspinall to join Liverpool’s Centre of Excellence.Even then, his vast potential was there for all to see as he tore apart justabout every junior scoring record. Robbie progressed through the ranks and inApril 1992 was rewarded with a professional contract.
Within nine months he appeared on a senior teamsheet for thefirst time when named as a sub in a third round FA Cup replay at home toBolton.
The 1995-96 season saw him score 30-plus goals once more andretain his Young Player of the Year award.
Four goals at home to Middlesbrough in December 1996 brought histally to 100 in less time than striking mentor Ian Rush, while another 30-goalhaul the following season took Liverpool the closest they came to a 19th LeagueChampionship during this era.
In February 2001, Fowler scored a spectacular goal duringLiverpool’s Millennium Stadium debut before holding aloft his first trophy ascaptain, the Worthington Cup.
It proved to be the first leg of an unprecedented treble, withthe number nine also featuring in the FA and UEFA Cup finals. In November 2001Robbie was sold to Leeds, at a record-breaking £11million before moving on toManchester City.
Come January 2006, Robbie returned to Liverpool FC making 30appearances during his second stint at the club. Robbie also went on to playfor Cardiff City, Blackburn, North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory.
In 2011, he joined Thai side Muangthong United as a player, butlater was appointed player/manager where he remained until 2012.
